A rocky path in Gothic 1 Remake

Reading and dialogue cleanup

Gothic 1 Remake Books & Dialogue Guide

Track Bookworm and Mud Freak while you play, with a cleaner split between general reading, Mud dialogue, and named book chains.

What this tracks

Use one cleanup sheet, but keep the goals separated.

Goal Track here? What to do When to use another guide
Bookworm Yes Read a book, mark one slot, and note where you counted it. Use a named quest guide if the book starts a special chain.
Mud Freak Yes Make a pre-dialogue save, then work through Mud's available options. Use your current dialogue screen if wording or availability differs.
Chromanin No Treat it as a clue chain with its own saves and route steps. Go to the Chromanin guide before moving between clues.
Cavalorn Books No Keep Cavalorn answers and hunting tasks out of the simple count. Use the Cavalorn Books guide for answer cues and hunting cleanup.

Before you start

Make the cleanup easy to prove to yourself later.

Bookworm tracker

Mark each book only after you read it.

The safest count is boring: read, mark, write a short note, then keep playing. Use the note field for a shelf, trader, camp, or room name, not a perfect catalog.

Slot Read? Where you counted it Save note
Book 1Start count save
Book 2Keep the same sweep
Book 3Update after reading
Book 4Do not count pickup only
Book 5Mid-count save
Book 6Check special-chain boundary
Book 7Keep notes short
Book 8Save before travel
Book 9Check count before final slot

Mud Freak sweep

Run Mud dialogue like a small checklist, not a random conversation.

  1. 01

    Save first

Make a manual save before starting Mud's dialogue sweep.

  2. 02

    Open each branch

Choose each available topic instead of only the obvious or shortest line.

  3. 03

After a branch ends, check whether new choices appeared in the main list.

  4. 04

    Exit cleanly

Leave the conversation only after the remaining options look exhausted.

  5. 05

    Save after

Keep a post-dialogue save until the achievement state is clear.

Mud sweep checklist

Save checkpoints

Save for the point where memory usually fails.

Moment Save name idea Protects you from
Before a reading sweep books-count-base Losing the last clean count after checking several shelves or traders.
After five counted books bookworm-five-read Rebuilding the whole tracker if the later count gets messy.
Before speaking with Mud mud-before-dialogue Leaving the conversation before checking all available branches.
After Mud dialogue mud-dialogue-done Forgetting whether the dialogue sweep was actually finished.
Before story movement cleanup-before-push Moving on while Bookworm or Mud Freak is still uncertain.

Troubleshooting

Fix the last clean count before guessing.

Lost count

You forgot how many books were read

Return to the last named reading save or rebuild the count from your notes before marking more slots.

No popup

The achievement state did not change

Check whether a book was only picked up, whether a named chain was mixed in, or whether the count is short.

Mud quiet

Mud has no new choices

Reload the pre-dialogue save if you are unsure, then repeat the sweep and check the main topic list after each branch.

Mixed route

Special books are confusing the count

Move Chromanin and Cavalorn tasks into their own trackers, then continue this page only for general reading and Mud dialogue.

Common mistakes

Small cleanup goals get messy when they live only in memory.

Counting a book before reading it

Inventory cleanup is not the same as reading cleanup. Mark the slot after the book is read.

Using this tracker for named chains

Chromanin and Cavalorn Books carry route logic. Keep them out of the simple Bookworm count.

Leaving Mud after one branch

Dialogue goals are easy to under-click. Return to the main list and check what is still available.

Overwriting the cleanup save

Keep the pre-sweep save until the reading or dialogue goal is clearly resolved.

Doing cleanup while rushing travel

Books and dialogue are low-pressure tasks. Finish the count before starting a long or risky route.

Ignoring current in-game wording

If achievement or dialogue wording differs in your build, follow the current game text first.

Version note

Use your current achievement list and dialogue screen as the final check.

Book counts, achievement wording, and dialogue availability can vary by build or save state. If your game shows different wording, keep the manual save and follow the current in-game text before moving on.

FAQ

Books and dialogue questions

What does Bookworm require?

Use this tracker for the 10-book reading cleanup goal. Read a book, mark a slot, and keep a save before major story movement.

What does Mud Freak require?

Use a clean save and go through Mud's available dialogue options before leaving the conversation sweep behind.

Should Chromanin and Cavalorn books be tracked here?

Keep named book chains separate and use their dedicated guides so their quest steps do not get mixed into a simple reading count.

What if I forgot how many books I read?

Return to your last reading save or rebuild the count from your notes. Do not overwrite a cleanup save until the achievement state is clear.

Do these tracker fields save after reload?

No. The checkboxes and text fields are lightweight on-page helpers and reset when the page is reloaded.
